Susan Kearney LCSW, Director of Austin RODBT is a licensed clinical social Worker specializing and certified in Radically Open DBT (RO-DBT).
One aspect I find particularly fulfilling in utilizing the RO DBT modality is my personal identification with tendencies towards high self-control, emotional inhibition, perfectionism and rigidity. Addressing these traits with RO DBT skills resonates with me, and assisting clients who share similar characteristics in living the life they desire is especially rewarding.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Houston, Texas, working towards certification in Radically Open DBT
(RO-DBT).
I received my Masters in Social Work at the University of Houston Graduate College of Social Work. My previous clinical experience includes facilitating court-ordered Batterer Intervention & Prevention Program (BIPP) groups, providing brief psychodynamic therapy to individuals and families in an outpatient setting, and working as a hospice social worker.
In addition to Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), I utilize tools from a range of modalities including traditional Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).
I am an LMSW with my graduate degree from the University of Houston with a clinical concentration in Health and Behavioral Health, currently seeking my LCSW. My clinical practicum included working with clients seeking recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric concerns, with a specific focus on Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), at a residential treatment center. In addition to my employment with Austin RODBT, I am employed as a Therapist for youth and young adults at a school for students diagnosed with neurological differences.
I have training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and am currently in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) training. Additionally, I have extensive career experience working with youth and a particular interest in adolescent mental health and group therapy. I have a passion for working with youth and their families to find therapeutic approaches that best fit each client’s holistic mental health goals as they grow, learn more about themselves, and take steps toward achieving their goals for a full and joyful life!
